365 Project - 52nd Week

Happy New Year!!!

Yippee!!! I can't believe the end of the year is finally here!!!  A whole year and my 365 project is complete. It's been both fun and frustrating.  On the plus side, my photography has improved a bit and I learned a lot more about PhotoShop Elements and my camera. There's still lots to learn in both areas.

As for this blog, I will still be posting photos here as time goes by, but it's going to be more ad hoc, at least at first.  As I said in my last post I'll be working on putting my shots into a book, which take some time to do.  I'll keep you posted.

In the coming year, I hope to continue working on my photography. I've recently got a number of photography books that should help with the taking the photos and using my camera properly. I also subscribed to a online magazine for Photoshop Elements, which should improve my post-processing skills. It was a little pricey, but comes with some tutorial software that should be quite helpful. I'm sure some of the information was available for free on the internet, but I liked having all of the information together on one site that's well-formatted. Hopefully, it's going to be useful and not a waste of money. Now, I just have to set aside some time each week so that I can go over that information and practice.

I'd like to thank those people who visited this blog and offered encouragement. It really helped me to finish this project. Your comments mean the world to me.

Anyway, here are the photos for the 52nd week of my 365 project, the last ones:

365 Project - 51st Week

Now that this project is wrapping up (only one more week to go), I've been thinking about what to do with the photos. Right now the plan is to create a book via Blurb. I've already downloaded the software, but haven't really started yet. It looks like it's really going to take some time; I'm hoping it's not going to be a whole year. ;)

I know not all of my photos are top-notch, so I'm not sure if all the photos are going to make the book or just a subset. That's to be decided.   I also have lots of decisions to make with regard to format.  I'm not even sure where to start.  It's all a bit daunting.   I hope to post some updates as things firm up.

Did I already mention that even though this project is called "365" there will be 366 photos because it's a leap year?  I hope that's not too confusing.

This week I've started with Christmas decorations, but quickly got bored.  The last one was the most fun to take.  It started out as an experiment, but since all of the shots I took mostly turned out, I've included one here.  It's a sparkler being moved about by my husband in the dark.  There are lots of hints on the internet if you are interested in giving it a try...just Google "Photographing Sparklers" or a variation on that.

For now, here are the photos for the 51st week of my 365 project:

365 Project - 50th Week

I can't believe there's only two more weeks to go!!! I thought it was never going to end.   I guess I should start thinking about what my final shot should be.

Since it's really close to Christmas and I did some decorating for the season all of my shots this week are related to that.

Again, I like all of the shots this week.  The last shot is too dark, but when I lightened it up, it got way too grainy. I'm learning to live with it.

My favourites are the ones with I took with my homemade bokeh filters,  the1st and 6th.  Both of them have our Christmas tree in the background.  According to Wikipedia, bokeh has been defined as "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light". For more information, click on the here.  Last year, I made two filters to change the shape of the bokeh (a star and a heart) and while I'm still not that great at using them, I love it.

I've been filling in shots for missing days a lot more lately. I've really only missed a few, however, there were times when my daily shots for a particular day were down right horrible. I chose not to use them and picked one from another day. It's all good. My project, my rules.

Merry Christmas!

365 Project - 49th week

It's almost done...it's almost done...it's almost done...this project that is.

Even though I'm having a hard time finding subjects to shoot, I'm pretty happy with all of my photos this week. We were dog sitting again, so I had the neighbour's dog, Dakota, help out with a couple of shots. She loves the snow and cold way more than I do and was happy to be out and about outside. I think she was almost as happy sleeping inside, until I got up really close and stuck the camera in her face. She's a good girl, though, so she let me do my thing and then went to sleep.

I'm love working with textures and use them every chance I get now, but I hope not too much. I love how they can drastically change the appearance of a shot. At some point, I really need to work on making more subtle changes rather than drastic ones. I'm having fun, though.

Here are the photos for the 49th week of my 365 project:

365 Project - 48th week

I had a hard week with regards to photography.   The only one I really like is the Deer in B&W.   All of the rest are just ok.  I was disappointed to learn that the last one is a near-duplicate of an earlier one in the project.  I didn't realize I had used this prop (book thong) before until a few days later.  I've also shot stacked books for this project.   It's getting harder to find new/interesting things to shoot.    Thank God it's almost over.

Here are the photos for the 48th week of my 365 project:

365 Project - 47th week

With only a couple of more weeks to go, I'm looking forward to wrapping this thing up. I'm sure I've said this before, but when I started this project, I had no idea how long a year would feel. I didn't accomplish as much as I thought I would, but did learn quite a bit about my camera and photography in general. It's all good.

Also, I'm not ruling out trying this again in a year or two. Next year, I'm still going to be taking pictures, just not on a fixed schedule.

As for this weeks photos, I really love the first one.  It's hoar frost on chicken wire.  I've posted more frost pictures on Flickr if you want to see more.   I also really like the two photos of the brooches/pins, mostly because of the textures I applied in Photoshop Elements.   The one with the red squirrel standing in the snow is another favourite.   He's just such a cutie!
