Saturday Snapshot - From Flood to Drought

If you follow my book blog, Daisy's Book Journal, you may have seen some posts regarding the flood we had for a lot of last year. Weather-wise, this past year has been very different. Precipitation-wise, we had a pretty dry summer, a very dry fall, while winter has been pleasant (almost) with its above normal temps and well below normal snowfall. The coming spring is still a big determining factor with regards to flooding, but the province is already talking about a moderate "drought". From one extreme to the other! I hope that prediction holds, but hopefully it won't be too severe. A summer where we can cut the grass, walk around the yard, and traverse the driveway without hip waders, will be most welcome.

Anyway, here's a wintery shot of my backyard. On the left-hand side, you can still see the waterline on the trees.   Normally, we'd have a lot more snow...at least another foot or two.  It really has been a terrific winter.

Photo Friday - Greenery

I did a reflection photo the other day of a pineapple for my 365 project. I liked it so much I decided to try another one. I added a frame on this one, too. Too much? I love playing around with PhotoShop and love adding extras to my photos when I can figure out how to do something.

Nice challenge PF.  Finding something green in the middle of frickin' winter was definitely frickin' challenging.  ;)   Because of this, I feel justified in using a subject I've used before on this blog.

For more "Greenery" photos, visit the Photo Friday website.

Saturday Snapshot - Bathroom Faucet

We are finally ready to begin bathroom renovations! This has been in the planning stage for over a year. It should have been done last June, but because of the flood the contractor couldn't get to our house. For the past two months, we've been in overdrive trying to get everything ordered and delivered so he can start on Monday. So far, it's not been too much fun, but once it's done I'll be one happy girl. I can't wait. Hopefully, I'll post some before and after shots in about 2 months when it's complete. *fingers crossed*.

Today, I have a photo of the bathroom faucet. I'm not a huge fan of chrome (fingerprints already! and it's not even installed) and would have loved to get it in satin nickel or something like that, but that wasn't in the budget. C'est la vie.

365 Project - Week 2

Here is the second week of photos for my 365 project - Life - Up Close:

Bistro Plates on 365 Project Casino Stash and Profits on 365 Project Watch on 365 Project Christmas Nuts on 365 Project Candle Light on 365 Project Carat on 365 Project Breakfast on 365 Project

Clicking on the photos will take you to larger versions on the 365 Project website.

As you can see, I've been experimenting with PhotoShop Elements. I've only scratched the surface of what the software can do, but I'm pleased with some of the results. I tried a few different techniques above: lens flare and texture on the ring, vignette on the nuts, layers on the watch and candles, and texture on the bistro plates.

365 Project - Week 1

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned on my book blog that I was starting a 365 project for the new year. I hesitated posting photos over there knowing that not everyone appreciated random photos on a blog that was supposed to be about books. Now that I have a photography blog, I can post all the photos I want. ;)

Anyway, my theme for my 365 project is Life - Up Close. Here is the first week of photos:

Hangers on 365 Project Toque on 365 Project Leaf on 365 Project Wire Basket on 365 Project Body Spray on 365 Project Apple Timer on 365 Project Knitting Needles on 365 Project

Clicking on the photos will take you to larger versions on the 365 Project website.

So far, so good.  I don't love all of these, but at least I took one photo a day.  Right now I'm trying to get into the habit of taking photos every day.  In the near future I hope to make the photo represent the day.  That is, take a photo of something I did that day or used that day, not just random stuff around the house.

Saturday Snapshot - Fern

I'm posting today from my new photography blog. Welcome! If you missed the post on my book blog (Daisy's Book Journal), I decided to start posting all my photography stuff in a new space for a variety of reasons. I'm still playing around with the format/layout/all things blog, so don't be surprised if it looks different the next time you visit.   I hope you'll come back often.   I don't have a story to go with this one, so without further delay, here's my photo:

Wordless Wednesday - Fresh Green Beans

More Wordless Wednesday.

New Blog

I currently blog at Daisy's Book Journal. However, I decided to move my photography stuff here and make that one strictly about books again. I don't know if it's going to work out, but I'm going to give it a shot.

For now, I've chosen a standard template/layout. No doubt that will change many, many times in the coming weeks.
